You may or may not be asking why I’m sharing this life-changing information for free.
Here’s what it’s all about:
I’m “Radar” Roy, a retired cop and Certified Search Engine Optimization Expert. I got my start back in 2001 with the Search Engine Academy run by Robin Nobles and John Alexander.
I sought out the Search Engine Academy because a less than reputable “SEO Agency” that I’d hired got me banned from Google.
I was “slapped” with the Google ban because while I was forking over my hard earned money to these guys, they were promoting my site using SPAM and other “shady” techniques without telling me so.
After that, I’d had enough.
At that time I knew zero about SEO or Internet Marketing and I had all these self proclaimed Internet experts and Gurus emailing or calling me, promising quick easy fixes.
Don’t these “black hat” firms pushing their “Get Quick Rich” schemes remind you of the Wall Street criminals that destroyed our economy?
Me too.
And I felt ashamed because I’m a retired cop, I should have known better.
I fell for one of their repackaged offers that seemed to good to be true but… more importantly… I went from making a few thousand a month to zero!
But then I made the most important decision in my Online Marketing career; I took a one week SEO Training Workshop from Robin Nobles and John Alexander at the Search Engine Academy and learned how to build and manage a successful and sustainable online business from scratch.
Days after I took the SEO workshop I cleaned up my website, designed a few new ones and began implementing the basic SEO foundations I learned. Two weeks later Google removed their ban and I was listed number seven on the first page for my most coveted keyword term and the customers returned. I then began using a few of the more the SEO Workshop’s advanced material and in four months my rankings rocketed to the number one position in Google, Yahoo and MSN.
My yearly net profit went to over two hundred thousand dollars a year!
Then out of the blue in 2007, a competitor in my niche, NetShops Inc., called me offering to acquire my entire Internet Empire for seven figures plus and to become a consultant for them !
As soon as the ink dried on the sales contract the deal became public. Unexpectedly, my phone began ringing off the hook. Thirty online business owners called me that one day , pleading with me to take them on as a client and take over their Search Engine and Internet Marketing campaigns. Heck – I just sold my business, I didn’t want a job!
But I did take four client’s projects one being a nonprofit agency along with two others in the construction industry and began teaching and working with each individually to teaching them my strategies on how to be successful in a short period of time.
That I learned from them is that I have the passion and skill to teach others and this ability enabling others to also be successful was the most rewarding thing I’ve ever experienced in my life.
Therefore I’ve become an associate of the Search Engine Academy.
If you are launching or running a home based business, a local business, the CEO or employee of a company, or a professional online marketer, then you will benefit from my training and coaching and learn how to create and run an effective online marketing campaign.
I invite you to follow along and watch the video at the top of this page, just to the right, above my “Free SEO Tips of the Day” Newsletter. That way, you can see what just a handful of my clients are saying about what I’ve done for them.
If you’d like to get these kinds of results for your online business, then keep reading, because I have some very important information to share with you.
The Proof: Here’s how I can make good on every promise I’ve made to you so far.
First, below the video testimonials at the top of this page, you’ll see I’ve provided a daily newsletter, free of charge, that I will personally send to your inbox. In this newsletter, you’ll find my own SEO submission and promotion research that you can utilize on your website… right now… to increase traffic and conversions.
(And if you’re worried about spam… don’t sweat it. Back in 2001, when I first got my start marketing on the internet, my website was mercilessly thrown out of the search engine categories because an SEO agency used “spammy” tactics on my website and I was “slapped” with the Google ban.
Nobody online hates spam as much as I do. And you have my word, I’ll never share your contact information with anyone.)
Second, if you type in “Radar Roy” into Google, you’ll see thousands of listing including articles, interviews with newspapers, magazines, TV programs and radio reports and other research material posted on blogs, review sites, YouTube and other social media properties. Each day, my name (“Radar Roy”) is typed into the Search Engines by “Raving Fans”. It is the most used term in Google for people searching for information on radar detectors.
Why is that important? Because I got my start selling radar detectors and sold that website two years ago! And if you type in “Radar Detectors” right now in Google, you’ll see that website come up, on a bad day, at number two in the listings!
Here’s even more proof:
Here are some of the clients I’m currently mentoring, in very different markets, and the results I’ve been able to deliver for them.
If you were to type “tire pressure monitor” into Google, see tirepressuremonitor.com in the #1 position?
How about “faux rock”? How is fauxrock.com doing?
My friend Tom Wilkerson runs a business certifying forklift operators to keep OSHA off the manufacturers backs.
Try searching for “fork lift certification” and see if you can’t find certifyme.net immediately?
One more example. Wickenburghomes.com has been able to dominate “wickenburg real estate” since I’ve trained them. Try Googling “wickenburg real estate”.
Enough.
You get the point.
Here’s what to do now:
If you haven’t already, be sure you sign up for my free SEO Tip of the Day.
And If you’d really like to get things rolling, make sure you enroll in one of my live training seminars listed at the top of this page under “Search Engine Workshops“.
I look forward to helping you grow your business beyond what you thought was possible!
-”Radar” Roy Reyer
P.S. Before I go… I just wanted to say, as you read through this website and imagine at time say, six months from now… when you’ve used all of the powerful tools I have to share with you to really grow your business and get the sort of results that you truly desire… I’m not sure if you could find yourself looking back on this moment as having been the start of it.
But I’m very excited to be sharing all of these discoveries with you.
It has become a passion of mine to help my clients live the lives they truly dream about… using practical technology that I’ve seen change so many lives already.
Thanks again.
Social Media – Are You In Touch With Your Customers?
January 25, 2009 by radarroy

At which point in the buying funnel do you start interacting with prospective clients?
To survive in today’s hard economic times it becomes increasingly important to start influencing perspective customers before your competition as they enter into the “buying funnel”.
Awareness – The first stage of the funnel. At this first stage the customer becomes aware of a product or service that you provide. Historically the launching of new products and/or services has been through more traditional forms of media advertising such as news papers and television.
The high costs of this form of advertising locked out many smaller companies which allowed the larger corporations to monopolize the marketplace with their products and/or services.
But now the power of the Internet and social media has changed the playing field.
A good example is the Blentec success story. A few days after Marketing Director George Wright started his new job at Blentec, a faceless company that manufactured consumer grade blenders, he took a tour of the factory and walked into a back testing room. Here he found Tom Dickson, the CEO of the company, ramming a 2×4 into the blender to test new ball bearings. Tom was told that this extreme blending was a common occurrence at Blentec, however George Wright saw a new marketing opportunity.
The “Will it Blend” video series was launched on social media video sites and they became a viral phenomenon, garnering over 100 million views in total!
Interest – The second stage of the buying funnel. Customers may become interested in a product or service after they become aware of it, again the Blentec story is a prime example.
As the more and more people began watching the video and reading other people comments posted on social media websites such as Digg, blogs and forums, they begin thinking, “I watched it blend a 2×4 and all these other people say it can blend anything else, it must be dependable” so they became interested in the product and other products the company manufactured, sales skyrocketed!
Consult - After a prospective customer gains interest in a product and/or service they tend to confirm their desires with other people who may have used it before. I recognized this early on when I owned my network of Radar Detector websites. In 2004 I launched a message forum for radar detector enthusiasts at www.RadarDetector.net.
Believe it or not, there are actually radar detector hobbyists that get together to test and discuss the latest technologies. My forum served as their online meeting place and I established strong relationships with them. When a new member joined the forum and asked where the best place was to buy a radar detector they referred them to my website. In a few short months I was able to build a base of “Raving Fans” for my products and services through this medium.
Research – It is at this point that prospective customers start leaving the Social Media landscape and start entering into the search engine landscape.
Online users are now beginning to become more web savvy, realizing that anyone can buy ad space in the sponsored listings and the rank is dependent on how much the merchant wants to spend.
However studies have also shown that the customer feels that the search engine ranking for the organic (free listings) are based upon some sort of endorsement of being a quality website.
Therefore online users normally begin their search in the free organic areas of their results.
Using another example from my experience running RadarBusters, I ranked number one in Google, Yahoo and MSN for the term radar detector in both the organic and PPC arena for over five years.
I’ve often been asked why I would run a PPC campaign when I had the number one free listing, here is my answer. When I number one in both arenas my average daily click rate was 500 clicks, balanced as 70% organic and 30% PPC with a higher percentage of conversions coming from the organic campaign. However when I turned off the PPC campaign my total click through rate plummeted by 60% and conversions fell off by 30%.
It was a common practice of mine to interview customers on the phone as to why they made the decision to buy from my website(s). When was turning on and off my AdWords campaign. When I asked specific questions to clients that have been researching their purchase for a long period of time and noticed my AdWords campaign being inactive, they felt that even though I was number one in the free listings that I didn’t feel confident my products and/or services by also paying for advertising!
Prospective customers start with general terms about a product or service and then start narrowing down their search using long tail keywords and more specific buying terms.
Even though I was ranked number one the general term for radar detectors it was not my best converting keyword. Specific model numbers or band names were.
Shop – As perspective customers begin bouncing around the various websites for the products and services they are looking for, many online merchants feel that the personal touch isn’t needed; this is so far from the truth!
Interaction with my prospective customer my network of radar detector websites was my strong point and I used this to its full potential to kill my competition!
On every product page I had a video with me explaining the features of that product, both the pros and cons.
Also on every product page I allowed previous customers to post their own reviews of that particular product or my services. Yes, there were times that I screwed up and the customer posted their nasty message. Did I kill it, NO! I used this to my advantage to make good with the customer and give him free shipping, a discount, a refund and posted my actions under the customers. Often the customer was turned into a happy customer and they posted their appreciation for my actions.
This interaction with my clients on my website(s) created a bond. And if there is only one thing you need to learn and understand about marketing “It’s always easier to sell to an existing customer then it is to a new customer”
Buy – Ok, the customer is ready to buy and they are on your website, will they follow through?
During consultations with several clients I was shocked to see exit rates as high as 90% (and with one client 100%) from their shopping carts. After reviewing their process in taking orders, reviewing their website(s) and testing the process I’ve ranked the most common reasons for shopping cart abandonment.
1. Something isn’t working! – In the case of the client with the 100% exit rate this was clearly evident in my testing, the client’s database was corrupt and when it came time to confirm order to add the data to the SQL database the back end failed. The client never thought of making an order for themselves to test the process to the end.
2. “This site may not be secure, do you wish to continue” – Google’s own AdWords signup process is a prime example of this warning message, it has been broken for years and never fixed! Normally this is an easy fix and indicates that you perhaps have an image or script that is not being addressed properly in the code. But lots of customers see this flag and say to themselves, “can I trust this site with my personal data?” And then leave.
3. Lack of a privacy statement – What are you going to do with the customer’s data once you have it. Many customers are concerned about this and want to know.
4. Lack of Trust – What factors do you have on your website to build trust? With my RadarBusters website this was easy. On the front page of the website I had MY photo, on other pages I had photos of when I was a police officer, on product reviews I used badges, I had the Hacker Safe logo, the Chamber of Commerce logo, VeriSign’s logo
5. What is your return policy? – Address this issue, customers want to know. I offered 100% satisfaction guarantee refunds, while my competitors charged a 20% restocking fee. Sure I got back damaged products and people who just wanted a detector while they were on vacation, but I made up these losses in volume.
Reconsider – Ok, they just received your product or service now comes the fun part. Will they like it enough to tell a few friends or will they hate it, ship it back in the next UPS truck and tell the entire neighborhood (and the Internet) about your crappy service and/or product?
I made it a practice to always follow-up with a telephone call or an email to survey the customer and to recommend other products.
At my three day Advanced SEO Workshop, I go into much more detail on how you can take advantage of the the power of social media, creating videos and podcasts to dominate your competition, SEO training schedule and registration here.
Using Wordpress to Develop Your Internet Presence
When I started my Internet Marketing Career way back in 1997 the tools for web development were limited, clunky and expensive so I learned to do most of my coding using notepad.
Today there are several professional web development programs such as Dreamweaver, however the complexity of the program and the cost often puts them outside the reach of small business owners that want to create their own website(s).
However, I’ve noticed the past year a dramatic shift in web development with increased use of Wordpress as the program of choice. Wordpress was initially developed for users to create an easy blogging platform.
The program is free, it is highly adaptable through plug-ins and themes, very easy to learn and utilizes a very powerful CMS (content management system) and it has grown to be more popular as the tool of choice all the way from professional web developers and small business owners.
If you didn’t notice, this website uses WordPress along with a Revolution 2 theme.
The initial setup time for this site was under two hours. After this we changed the appearance of the site using the built in editor then added our photos, videos and content and we were online within a day.
If you’re considering creating a Wordpress website, here is a short tutorial and two ten minute videos:
- Domain Name - First order of business is creating a domain name for your blog. One free online tool that I use to discover new domain names is the DomainTools website at: http://www.domaintools.com .Avoid domain names that use trademarks and/or service marks in them as the trademark holder can later take action against you.
- Register Domain Name – After you choose your domain name, next step is to register it. Please do your homework on which domain provider you use. Several companies are known to “hijack” your domain away from you just because someone has filed some petty complaint against you.
- Hosting Provider - find a hosting provider and DON’T cut any corners in this area, its critical if you want your site to rank in the search engines. Many of the low cost hosting providers use virtual hosting, meaning that they take your domain name and host it with a bunch of other domain names using the same IP address. The IP address that your hosting company provides is basically the street address, apartment number, state and zip code for your website. If your hosting provider is using virtual IP hosting, you will have no idea who your neighbors are. Some maybe sex sites, sites selling Viagra, who knows. When the search engines visit your IP address they see all the “bad neighbors” that you have and may assume that your website is affiliated with them and your site now has more difficult time in proving itself to the search engines that it is indeed worthy of being listed. Also make sure that your hosting provider has CPanel and Fantastico installed on their servers. It makes setting up your WordPress blog and management allot easier.I own my own webservers to host my sites and my client’s sites and I’m VERY PARTICULAR who joins me. If you’re interested in having me host your WordPress blog, please contact me.
- Install Wordpress – Access CPanel on your site, click on the Fantastico button and there is a short tutorial on installing Wordpress. Please read it as features and services do change.Press the install WordPress button, answer a short series of questions such as the username, password, email and name of your install. In a few seconds WordPress will be installed in your account.Initially you will have the default WordPress theme, we will update the theme a little later, but first we want to make a test entry and make sure that everything is working fine.
- Upload a Wordpress Template – Find a Wordpress theme that complements your services. There are free themes on the Wordpress website that you can choose or you can buy a custom theme from a vendor.Download this theme to your computer, unzip it and then use a FTP program to upload it to your server in the wp-content/themes/ folder.Next go to the WP admin panel – in Presentation -> Themes and activate your theme.
- Modify the Theme – Be sure that you back up all your files before you begin editing any of the pages in the theme editor. If you do not want the comments and the “posted by… on…” displayed to make your website not look like a blog, just delete the following from the index.php (and also delete the same in the files page.php and single.php – if there are these files):• <?php the_time(’F jS, Y’) ?><?php edit_post_link(’, Edit’); ?>
• <div class=”comm”><?php comments_popup_link(’Post Comment’, ‘Comments (1)’, ‘Comments (%)’); ?></div>You may also like to edit some images of the theme like e.g. the header image. All you would do is find that image in the image folder, download it to your computer and make what ever changes you want then upload back into the same folder with the same file name.
That’s all there is to it, you’re now online with your WordPress website!
Are You Using The Power of Video to Convert New Customers?
Interactive Media
Hopefully you’ve read some of my daily tips getting you started on Internet marketing. If you haven’t, you’ve got to sign up and get started. It is absolutely FREE and can save you money today on how you market your business.
One of my daily tips that I mentioned is the power of using video for testimonials instead of written comments. Watching someone give a message allows the customer to get visual cues from the person. This allows them to potentially trust the message more, if the video cues from the testimonial indicate that the person is trustworthy.
A lot of people may also not want to read what you write. Others don’t have time to read it or the patience. If you offer your information in a video, it may be much more appealing. Plus, you can entertain in a video format more easily than the written word and humor is very appealing.
Don’t forget, there is a viral effect from videos. You may create a video that is just designed to instruct your customers or advertise your products, but you could say or do something in such a way that people find it entertaining and start sharing it. This is more than just word of mouth advertising, this is SUPER word of mouth! You can’t pay for that level of advertising.
The Power of Video
This increased level of trust that videos create is VERY powerful and not limited to testimonials! I first began using video on my RadarBusters.com website in 2004 to compare and explain the various features of radar detectors that I sold. I later expanded the use of video to also include product testing and frequently asked questions. In that year, my conversions and sales increased over 200%!
At first I felt that this explosion in sales was because the videos answered many of the questions my customers had, I was wrong!
Several months after I had started using videos, I was vacationing 1400 miles away from home in Spearfish South Dakota with my wife. While we were walking on the street a man approached me and asked “You’re Radar Roy right?” I said yes and he related that he had purchased a radar detector from my website the previous day and that the reason he made the purchase from my website because of the videos.
He said, “Roy, it was just like you were sitting on my living room couch, explaining to me face to face on what I wanted to buy, I knew that I could trust you.” That day I knew that my customers weren’t just buying a product or weren’t just buying products from a site they trusted. This man trusted me and bought from me, Radar Roy. That day I learned the power of my video marketing.
Is it Expensive or Complicated?
The short answer, No.
When you look around and decide where to spend your marketing dollars, videos are definitely a cost effective way to go and getting started isn’t complicated.
First buy an inexpensive video camera. You may have a camera phone that takes video or a camera that takes video. Try these out and see if you like the video quality. If the quality is acceptable to you, you can use that. I think that having a high quality recording is very important, as it speaks to your professionalism, which speaks to your trustworthiness. If you want to invest in a video camera, you may choose to do what I did.
All of the videos you see here on SEOtrainingSW.com were done with my Flip Mino HD video camera that cost less than $200. The quality is excellent and puts many higher-spec competitors to shame. The software I use to edit the videos is Sony Vegas Studio Nine, which costs less than $100.00.
Once you’ve made the video, you’ll have to sign up at one of the many video sharing sites. The most popular are YouTube and Google Video. Once you’re signed up, follow the easy instructions and upload your videos for free! Don’t forget to use your keywords we talked about in my 7 tips to make sure your videos are indexed right and get found when people search for them!
Does it take A Lot of Time?
Are you too busy to increase the traffic to your business? Are you too busy to increase your profit? You can take as much time as you want filming and editing as you want, so it may just be something you don’t want to do. If it just isn’t “your thing”, outsource it! You can outsource it to video production students at a local college, an employee of your company whose hobbies include making YouTube videos, or you can we can contract your services out to one of our video production specialists.
According to a recent survey, less than 25% of retailers are using video advertising on their site. They like to use visual attraction and some spend millions figuring out the right colors and words for an ad campaign to maximize the number of people they draw in. What could be a better visual attraction than a video? Simply put, it’s the most powerful visual attraction you can use to brand your company and market your services and products. It’s attention grabbing and showcases your products and/or services better than any still image ever could and it’s something you can do right now, on your own, to increase the value of your business.
Harnessing the Power of Video is discussed in more detail during my Advanced SEO Training Workshop.
